OUR SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE The Lord said unto Paul, "I will send thee unto the Gentiles, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may received forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me" (Christ the Lord). Acts 26:17-18
If we be a New Testament Christian, God will give us a Spiritual Inheritance which is in heaven. Therefore, we should serve the Lord our God so that we can enjoy the Spiritual Blessings of New Testament Christianity.
Learn the following truth because your life is valuable.
THE REASONS FOR OUR INHERITANCE I. God, who is our Creator, is willing to give us our Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because we have been born again in a Spiritual Way. "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified." Acts 20:32
II. Christ, who is our Redeemer, is willing to give us our Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because we are a new creature in Him. "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive of the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24
THE NEED FOR OUR INHERITANCE I. We need a Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because this world is not our home. "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, and the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the come of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." 2 Peter 3:10-12
II. We need a Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because we could be lost eternally in hell. "Then shall he (the Lord) say also unto them on the left hand (the goats: the sinners) Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels." Matthew 25:41
Now, hell was not prepared for man because it was prepared for the Devil and His angels. Therefore, if we should live a rebellious life against the Lord our God, we would have to exist eternally in hell because we be a servant of Satan.
THE NATURE OF OUR INHERITANCE "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who (the Christians) are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:3-5
I. Our Spiritual Inheritance is incorruptible because it is in heaven. "Thou hast a few names even in Sardis, who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcometh (the forces of evil), the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels." Revelation 3:3-4
II. Our Spiritual Inheritance is undefiled because it is in heaven. "And there shall in no wise enter into it (the Heavenly City) any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." Revelation 21:27
III. Our Spiritual Inheritance is eternal because it is in heaven. "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand (the sheep: the righteous), Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for your from the foundation of the world. And these (the wicked) shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into live eternal." Matthew 25:34,46
THE BLESSING OF OUR INHERITANCE I. God has predetermined our Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because of the gospel plan of salvation. "That in the dispensation of the fullness of time he (God) might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will." Ephesians 1:10-11 God did predetermine our Spiritual Inheritance, but God did not predestinate the persons who would become a member of His Kingdom because we are free moral agents.
II. God is preparing us for our Spiritual Inheritance in heaven because we are a new creature in Christ. "Giving thanks unto the Father, who hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son." Colossians 1:12-13
