OUR SPIRITUAL METAMORPHOSIS "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." Colossians 3:9-10
Our life is precious because we can put off the old man of sin and put on the new man of righteousness. Therefore, we should become a New Testament Christian so that we could put off the old man of sin by putting on the new man of righteousness.
Learn the following truth because your life is valuable.THE NEED FOR OUR SPIRITUAL METAMORPHOSIS I. In being an alien sinner, we were the enemies of God because we were a friend of the world. "Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." James 4:4
II. In being a New Testament Christian, we are the friends of God because we have obeyed the gospel plan of salvation. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth; but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made know unto you." John 15:13-15
THE REQUIREMENTS OF OUR SPIRITUAL METAMORPHOSIS I. If we want to be transformed, we must put off the old man with his evil deeds. "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts." Ephesians 4:22
II. If we want to be changed, we must be renewed in the spirit of our mind. "And be renewed in the spirit of your mind." Ephesians 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence: for out of it (the heart) are the issues of life." Proverbs 4:23 "For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7 What does it mean to be renewed in the spirit of your mind? It means that we must have godly thoughts in our heart. "Those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart (he intellect) proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man." Matthew 15:18-20
III. If we want to be converted, we must put on the new man with his righteous deeds. "That ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness, and true holiness." Ephesians 4:24
THE SECURITY OF OUR SPIRITUAL METAMORPHOSIS I. In being a New Testament Christian, we are built upon the foundation (the works) of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone. "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit." Ephesians 2:20-21
A. The apostles did do the Divine Work of human redemption because they spoke of the great plan of salvation. "Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect (to receive) so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him." Hebrews 2:1-3
B. The prophets did prophesy of the Divine Blessings of New Testament Christianity because they spoke of the gospel age. "And he (Jesus) said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me." Luke 24:44
II. In being a new creature in Christ, we are build upon the foundation (the works) of Christ. "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11 "Therefore whosoever heareth these saying of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock (Christ is the Rock of Ages); And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand (the doctrines of men): And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." Matthew 7:24-27
THE BLESSINGS OF OUR SPIRITUAL METAMORPHOSIS I. In being a son of God by regeneration, we are fellowcitizens with the saints while we sojourn upon the earth. "Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigner, but fellow citizen with the saints, and of the household of God." Ephesians 2:19
II. In being a disciple of Christ, we will become the heirs of God in our Heavenly Home. "And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. and there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name (God) shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God shall them light: and they shall reign (rule) for ever and ever" (over the forces of evil). Revelation 22:1-5
